Mammogram - Not Really an Inconvenience
I must admit that I tend to procrastinate with certain medical tests. I suffer from Lupus and many other issues related to this autoimmune disease, so I’m often having blood taken here or having a test there. Usually my tests includes fighting with the insurance company so when my internist orders something ordinary like a mammogram, I don’t put it high on my to-do list. I always tell myself that I’ll get to it.
Yesterday I was taking a nap with my two grandchildren and my two dogs (rather crowded on a full bed) when my grandson snuggled closer and his head hit my breast. A couple of minutes later he was asleep but the bump remembered me that I needed to get my mammogram done. I’m never worried that there will be a problem found but for some reason just always put this test off.
Sandhya Pruthi, M.D., director of Mayo Clinic Breast Clinic, Rochester, Minn., and medical editor at MayoClinic.com states:
“I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to discuss the importance of early detection of cancer. Just this week I cared for a young woman in her 30's diagnosed with breast cancer after she found a lump on her breast.”
Dr. Pruthj continues, “Breast cancer is an anxiety provoking diagnosis and can affect women of all ages. We've made significant strides in the past decade in decreasing death from breast cancer due to the combination of early detection and improved treatments in both young and older women.”
Strong Tummies is committed to all aspects of Women’s Health. As an associate of this company dedicated to core rehabilitation, I realize I need to lead by example. How can I expect our clients to take care of their heath if I’m not taking care of my own? So, I called and made a date to get a mammogram - no more putting it off. It’s a simple test that doesn’t even involve a needle poke. If you were putting it off like me, why don’t you pick up the phone and make your appointment today? A mammogram really isn’t an inconvenience and could save your life.
